ADHD services for children and young people
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioural syndrome characterised by the core symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. Although these symptoms tend to cluster together, some people are predominantly hyperactive and impulsive, whereas others are primarily inattentive.
Information for healthcare professionals
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) provides services for children aged from six years up to their 18th birthday, for an ADHD diagnostic assessment and follow up medication reviews, for those children already diagnosed with ADHD. When referring new children and young people for ADHD to TEWV, practices are advised they can use the same referral route as the CAMHS referrals - through the Single Point of Access (SPA). Please email the same Referral Form used for CAMHs referrals to: TEWV.NorthYorkshireCamhsreferrals@nhs.net

The service accepts written referrals from either GPs, paediatricians, health visitors, school nurses, social care, community doctors, pupil and parent services, Youth Offending Services and Children's Centres.

SEND hubs and other support provided by North Yorkshire County Council
Locality SEND Hubs
North Yorkshire County Council commissions the locality SEND hubs where families and schools can access support pre and post diagnosis from multi-disciplinary specialists on a neurodiversity needs led basis. You can contact the SEND hubs at NYSENDHubs@northyorks.gov.uk.
Communication and Interaction Intervention Pathway
The County Council also provides the Communication and Interaction Intervention Pathway designed around three levels of support. This has been running since October 2020. This provides specialist support such as sensory, speech therapy, and self-esteem. Level One is written summary advice. Level Two includes two-weekly 30-minute sessions for six weeks. Level Three includes two-weekly 30 minutes sessions for six weeks plus one weekly 30 minutes sessions for a further six weeks.
Plans will be written by a Specialist Teacher, Speech and Language Therapist or Speech, Language and Communication Specialist and usually delivered by a Specialist Practitioner or Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, dependent on need, and can be used flexibly with the child (and/or staff).

Unlocking ADHD
Additionally, North Yorkshire Council (NYC) offers the new Unlocking ADHD parent/carer online training course. The course aims to develop an understanding of the current thinking on ADHD and learn strategies that support successful management of these needs. This is open access and there is no requirement for a diagnosis. For more details and on how to book please see HERE.
The Council is also offering a professional version of Unlocking ADHD to education professionals in primary and secondary settings. The course aims to develop an understanding of the current thinking on ADHD including the neurodevelopmental model, the neurodiversity movement and other reasons that children and young people may struggle with attention, activity and impulsivity.
