Sensory support for children and young people
North Yorkshire County Council SEND Hubs
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) SEND Hubs offer sensory evaluations as part of a holistic assessment where the child’s needs meet the criteria for core hub support, and there is evidence that sensory differences impact on access to learning. The sensory evaluation considers a child’s preferences around the different areas of sensory processing, and supports school or setting staff with implementing strategies and activities to meet a child’s sensory needs.
Schools and settings can also access sensory evaluations through NYCC's traded services where a child does not meet the criteria for core hub support.

Communication and Interaction Intervention Pathway
The County Council also provides the Communication and Interaction Intervention Pathway designed around three levels of support. This has been running since October 2020. This provides specialist support such as sensory, speech therapy, and self-esteem. Level One is written summary advice. Level Two includes two-weekly 30-minute sessions for six weeks. Level Three includes two-weekly 30 minutes sessions for six weeks plus one weekly 30 minutes sessions for a further six weeks.
Plans will be written by a Specialist Teacher, Speech and Language Therapist or Speech, Language and Communication Specialist and usually delivered by a Specialist Practitioner or Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, dependent on need, and can be used flexibly with the child (and/or staff).
Information and contact details for the Communication and Interaction Team can be found by selecting the relevant locality hub page via SEND hubs | CYPSinfo (northyorks.gov.uk)
