Safeguarding is a term used in the United Kingdom and Ireland to denote measures to protect the health, wellbeing and human rights of individuals, which allow people - especially children, young people and vulnerable adults - to live free from abuse, harm and neglect.

We each have a responsibility to take appropriate action when we know or suspect an adult or child may be at risk of abuse or neglect.

PERSON Approach- Briefing for Professionals Visiting Care Home Settings

In April 2023, the ICB alongside North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council launched PERSON as a multi-agency approach for professionals across North Yorkshire and York who visit care home settings. The approach is intended as a prompt for teams to be observant of quality of care (which may not be related directly to the purpose of the visit) and encouraging any quality related concerns or celebration of good and outstanding care to be shared in a collaborative and collective manner.

Please ensure the attached poster is available for visiting staff to access as appropriate, and support them in being able to use including in being downloaded to staff phones where appropriate to allow them to complete while visiting care settings

Tool to help children and young people stop the spread of nude images

A tool that works to help young people get nude images or videos removed from the internet has been launched by the NSPCC’s Childline service and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

The Report Remove tool can be used by any young person under 18 to report a nude image or video of themselves that has appeared online. The IWF will then review this content and work to have it removed if it breaks the law.

The circumstances in which a young person may share a self-generated sexual image can vary. Some may have sent an image for fun, or to a boyfriend or girlfriend which has then subsequently been shared without their consent. Whilst others may have been groomed online or blackmailed into sharing this content.
